A stolen safe has been returned to Hewitt’s Farms, but the money is still missing.

The safe was taken during a break-in July 14 at the Severn Township farm on Town Line.

Trevor Hewitt, one of the farm’s operators, was contacted by someone he knew, who found the safe in the ditch in front of his house a few kilometres away from Hewitt’s.

“They ripped the whole thing open and basically took everything that was inside,” Hewitt said.

Police have picked up the safe and are continuing their investigation.

The Hewitts have been touched by the response from customers and strangers alike.

“Many of our customers have been saying they’re sorry to hear about it, and we appreciate that,” Hewitt said.

Some have even been offering suggestions on improved security and camera systems.

As a way to say thanks to the community for its support, Hewitt’s is inviting people to visit its Fun Farm for free Aug. 19 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visitors can check out the animals and enjoy wagon rides and other attractions.

“It’s because of the community’s outreach,” Hewitt said of the reason for the event.

Hewitt’s is located at 3331 Town Line.

Anyone with information about the July 14 break-in and theft is encouraged to call Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
