The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)’s Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), County of Simcoe, Georgian College and other partners are hosting the fourth annual Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Exposition on May 16.

There are two parts to the event – a day session for students and an evening portion open to the public.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Grade 8 students have the opportunity to experience various trades by participating in a series of hands-on activities and demonstrations. From 5 to 7 p.m., the public is welcome to attend to speak to employers and industry experts.

“We have many opportunities within our board for students to learn about and experience careers in the skilled trades,” said Steve Blake, Director of Education for the Simcoe County District School Board. “Events like these provide early exposure to the multiple opportunities available in the trades and help them to make informed decisions about course and career selection.”

Employers and members of the public can register via Eventbrite

The Expo takes place at the Elmvale Community Arena, located at 14 George St. in Elmvale.

The Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo is coordinated through a partnership between the County of Simcoe, Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, City of Barrie, Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, City of Orillia, Springwater Township, Georgian College and the Flos Agricultural Society.
