This Giving Tuesday, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is asking the community to band together to secure new wheelchairs for patients over the holiday season. The hospital is experiencing a shortage of wheelchairs in some of itsbusiest departments, including Emergency and the Outpatient Fracture Clinic.

Subaru of Orillia has generously offered to match all gifts to the OSMH Foundation’s wheelchair campaign made between now and the end of November. That means if just 200 community members make a donation of $25, the hospital will be able to secure 20 brand new wheelchairs, which cost $500 each.

“The last thing someone wants to think about when they arrive at the Hospital is whether or not they will have access to a wheelchair,” said Steve, a patient of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. “It’s our responsibility as a community to ensure the Hospital has the equipment it needs to offer its patients the best care possible.”

Giving Tuesday, which officially takes place on Nov. 27, is a global giving movement that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The day of generosity has gained traction across Canada, with millions taking part each year.

“We urge our community to take part in this global movement by giving back to their charity of choice this Holiday season,” said Mark Riczu, Executive Director, OSMH Foundation. “Gifts big or small have such a noticeable impact on patient care at our Hospital.”
