Fresh off the film festival runs of Sideways Dog Production’s two award-winning and critically acclaimed ‘made-in-Orillia’ feature films, All About Who You Know, and Cup of Cheer, the local production company’s brand-new comedic-mystery TV series Sunshine City is making its world premiere in Orillia.

After bringing a piece of Orillia to dozens of film festivals across four continents and topping the domestic box office with their previous films, Sideways Dog Productions is coming home and inviting Orillia audiences to be the first in the world to see the complete First Season of the brand new series Sunshine City.

Sunshine City follows the cast and crew of a fictional travel show about a charming cottage country town - Orillia - as they soon discover that the local expert hosting the show knows little about the town she claims to have grown up in. With a detective circling the set looking for answers to an unsolved case, the show’s host, its crew, and the town of Orillia are soon wrapped up in a comedic mystery that explores what it means to be part of a community.

The world premiere screening of the groundbreaking new series Sunshine City – proudly filmed in and set in Orillia – will be held on Friday, June 10 at Creative Nomad Studios at 23 Mississaga St W in Orillia. Audiences will be treated to all episodes from Season 1 of Sunshine City followed by a Q&A with the series’ filmmakers and cast.

“From day one the people of Orillia have supported our projects as we’ve filmed all over the city, and we’ve been so thankful as they’ve come out to see what we’ve come up with at sold out screenings over the years,” says Sideways Dog Productions founder Jake Horowitz. “This project is our most meaningful yet, as it’s our first that is explicitly set in the place we’re proud to call home; Orillia.”

“We can’t wait to show the people and places of Orillia what they’ve helped us make with Sunshine City,” says producer, co-writer, and co-director Andy Lewis. “The show is a funny and heartwarming look at what it means to be part of a community, and we’re so excited for the community to be the first to see just how great Orillia is going to look on the world stage with this series.”

Audiences will be the first in the world to see the brand new Bell TV Series, featuring hundreds of sights, sounds, and people from Sunshine City. The series runtime is 80 minutes, followed by a brief Q&A.

Tickets are now available online at Creative Nomad Studios for $11 for either the 7p.m. or 9 p.m. screenings on June 10, 2022. Come out for a memorable evening while supporting our local arts community.
