Thousands of people flocked to Lagoon City for Saturday’s Ramara Classic Car Show.
More 250 vehicles were parked at Brechin Dry Dock Marine for the event put on by the Ramara Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber president Roger Selman says the event signifies “kicking COVID to the curb” after community events were put on hold over the past two years.
“This is a big event for our community,” he said. “It’s on the water and we have a lot of different cars from a lot of different communities here to support us.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Ramara Classic Car Show, which is an accomplishment for everybody involved, Selman says.
“It promotes tourism,” he said. “It brings people to our region and brings people to businesses that are already established in our community.”
The atmosphere at the show is always full of energy, he says.
“Car enthusiasts are glad to be outside enjoying the fresh air again,” he said. “They love having the opportunity of seeing some old friends and neighbours while getting to show off their beautiful vehicles.”
Ramara Mayor Basil Clarke says there wee more people at this year’s show than ever before.
“This is a good money maker for the local Legion and Lions club,” he said. “More than that, it really showcases Lagoon City and what a beautiful township this is to live in.”
Keith Secord, of Severn, had his 1971 Corvette on display at the show.
“I just got the car recently and I came here today to learn more about it,” he said. “I’ll be talking with lots of other Corvette owners here today to see what new things I can learn.”
This is the first year Secord has attended the event.
“People seem nice and really knowledgeable here,” he said. “Everyone has been very receptive to my questions. It’s been a good experience.”
The show was free to attend, but non-perishable food donations for the Sharing Place Food Centre were being accepted.
