Do you like artand relish the opportunity to support local artists? Would you like to support a great cause?

You can do both tonight at the Orillia Spirit of Hope Art Show, in support of Building Hope, at the Orillia Opera House in downtown Orillia.

The Lighthouse is once again partnering with artist and instructor Mike Howell on this fundraiser for the Lighthouse Community Services Hub under construction at 75 Queen St. E.

Tonight's show, which goes from 6:30 to 9 p.m., will feature paintings from 24 local artists, inspired by the Group of Seven and in honour of Franklin Carmichael, who was born and raised in Orillia.

Admission is free.

There will be a silent auction of selected works to raise money for the campaign underway to fund the new community services hub.

Building Hope is much-needed legacy project that will help to care for the needs of the homeless, hurting and hungry in our extended community for years to come, says Lynn Thomas, the development co-ordinator at The Lighthouse and manager of the fundraising campaign for Building Hope.

“We will have 40 emergency beds, five mental wellness beds, 20 separate supportive housing apartments as well as services for mental health, addictions counselling, life skills training and recreational activities,” said Thomas.
