The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 101 new COVID-19 cases in today's update (April 21).
There are 1,104 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 2,484 variant cases confirmed to date, with 611 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 9,654 cases of COVID-19 with 7,922 of those cases recovered and 218 cases ending in death.
There are 43 people from Simcoe County and two people from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes five new hospitalizations since yesterday.
To date, 147,970 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of a vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 23 per cent of the region's population.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified):
- Orillia (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact.
- Oro-Medonte (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old.
- Ramara (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Both cases are linked to close contact.
- Collingwood (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old.
- Wasaga Beach (3): Three people between 45 and 64 years old.
- Clearview (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old.
- Barrie (31): Three youth under 18 years old, 15 people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, 10 people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Eight cases are linked to close contact, one was community-acquired, one was outbreak-related, and one was linked to travel.
- Springwater (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old.
- Innisfil (14): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Six cases are linked to close contact.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (18): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, seven people between 35 and 44 years old, eight people between 45 and 64 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact four are attributed to community transmission, and one is outbreak-related.
- Essa (4): One person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old.
- New Tecumseth (9): Three people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact and one is attributed to community transmission.
- Adjala-Tosorontio (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old.
- There are 10 new cases in Muskoka, including six in Bracebridge, two in Gravenhurst, and two in Huntsville.
