Upside down highway sign in Warminster chalked up to 'human error'

'The kicker is that the Ministry of Transportation inspects these things and they missed it as well,' says Oro-Medonte official

A new traffic light ahead sign in Warminster was recently installed upside down.

An upside-down road sign has caught the eye of some commuters travelling through Warminster.

On Highway 12 near Line 13 North, a "traffic light ahead" sign alerts drivers travelling north that new traffic lights have been installed. However, the lights depicted on the sign are upside down, displaying the green light on top, and the red light on the bottom.

Jenny Leggett, communications officer for Oro-Medonte, says the township's operations department has been alerted about the issue.

"We didn't install the sign," she said. "It was installed by an independent contractor."

Leggett says the contractor, who was hired by the township, made a simple mistake.

"It's human error, that's all that was," she said, adding "the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) inspects these things and they missed it as well."

Leggett says the sign only went up recently and it was fixed earlier today.

Tanya Blazina, senior medial relations officer for the communications branch of the MTO, said the traffic lights and related signage were installed by a contractor hired by the MTO.

"The sign was inadvertently installed incorrectly and has since been rectified," she told OrilliaMatters. "The lights are operating as designed and there are no safety concerns at the intersection."
