Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBSOD) is asking the community to rally around them after their biggest fundraiser of the year was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“Our hockey tournament was nearly completely planned, with all teams paid and secured for the big day,” says BBBSOD's fundraising and community development coordinator, Melissa Panagakis. “It was budgeted to bring in $38,500 and unfortunately we had to issue full refunds to our teams.”

Panagakis explains that it is "very sad" to have cancel it for another year after staff, volunteers and participants had all put in great efforts to make the tournament a success.

However, BBBSOD is not going down without a fight! In partnership with Bumper to Bumper, they are holding another round of their Six-Pack Survivor Raffle Series Feb. 7 to 11 to help recoup some of their lost efforts.

If you are new to BBBSOD’s Survivor, it is a seven-day long raffle where teams of six enter to win up to 168 beer gift cards of $20 value each. BBBSOD has seen success with this fundraiser in the past and is hoping the community can come together once again for some online competition and camaraderie.

“It is amazing how quickly it came together,” says Executive Director Miranda Chaffey. “We are so grateful to Bumper to Bumper for hosting this series throughout the pandemic. Now we just need to round up some teams!”

Registration is now open for the Survivor, and you can find all the information to register here
