VIDEO: Check out Orillia's most haunting Halloween displays

There is something strange in most Orillia neighbourhoods this Halloween season ... we have 30 photos to prove it!

Orillians are getting their haunted on this year and taking decorating their homes for Halloween to a scary level.

All across town, you can find towering 12-foot-tall skeletons, scary characters from some of Hollywood's most popular Halloween-related movies, and pumpkins that have been carved with ominous faces.

Here you will see that we have captured some of Orillia's best-decorated homes.

One of the most popular displays in Orillia this year can be found on Martin Drive. There you can find a 12-foot-tall grim reaper, a life sized pirate ship, and more than 40 carved pumpkins.

The home owner, Natalie, who preferred not to provide her last name, says their family Halloween display has grown over the course of seven years.

"We started by building a little sunken pirate ship in our first year," she said. "We just kept building it bigger each year and collecting more and more things to put up."

The Halloween display is a group effort for the family; she says four adults from her close and extended family come together each fall to build it along with her four children.

On each of the 40 carved foam pumpkins, you can find the images of musicians, super heroes, and characters from popular movies and television shows.

"We used to use real pumpkins," Natalie said. "There is a lot of time and effort that goes into each pumpkin and they were rotting before we could finish them all each year."

Natalie and her family start their annual decorating during the first weekend of September and continue to add to their display as the Halloween season goes on.

"We still aren't done," she said. "It takes us a couple of months."

While the display draws plenty of people to Martin Drive during the autumn season, on Halloween night Natalie sees hundreds of local families.

"It's nuts," she said. "We had 400 kids last year. They just kept coming and coming."

Natalie says people have made her family display part of their Halloween traditions.

"They love it," she said. "We've gotten to know a lot of people in our neighbourhood because they just keep coming by."

Natalie says her family will continue to do the display each year as long as it continues to bring joy to her children who are 15, 12, nine, and six years old.

If there is a chilling Halloween display in your neighbourhood that we missed, or maybe even a cute one, snap a picture and send it to [email protected] and we'll add it to our spooky gallery.

Have a safe and Happy Halloween.
