NEWS RELEASE

Are you mystified by machines? Befuddled by bots? Wondering if your smartphone is really as clever as it lets on? Join us at the Orillia Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., as our emerging technologies librarian, Morgan, guides you on an expedition to the heart of artificial intelligence with a session aptly titled, What the Heck is AI?

Morgan will take you through the fundamentals, exploring different aspects of this game-changing, fascinating software model that can prattle, ponder, pontificate, provoke, play, predict, and (often) perplex. This event promises plenty of food for thought as Morgan unpacks the ‘bits’ and ‘bytes’ of AI technology. Along the way, you’ll learn about the perks, quirks, and ethics involved in the tech that’s reshaping our world — for better or worse.

We’ll tackle some big questions: What is AI? What are some of the amazing benefits that AI has brought us in various fields? Can a machine really be that smart? And, most importantly, are Alexa and Siri secretly plotting to take over the world? (Spoiler: probably not, but who doesn’t love a little robot drama?)

So, if you’re curious about what AI is, where it’s going, and how it impacts our everyday lives — from toasters to TikTok — make sure to save the date. The session will be held in the main program rooms, and registration is required.

Please visit the library website to register. Everyone welcome.

(Please note: AI was not used in the creation of this article. But if it was, how would you know?)
