NEWS RELEASE
CFUW ORILLIA

CFUW Orillia will hear all about Speaking of Wildlife on Feb. 25, 2025, when Krystal Hewitt, owner of the wildlife education centre, is its meeting speaker.
“We are wild about welcoming Krystal, owner and director of Speaking of Wildlife, to our meeting this month,” said Heather Lewis, president of CFUW Orillia. “Speaking of Wildlife provides permanent sanctuary to non-releasable Ontario wildlife. In her presentation, Krystal will give us a glimpse into her world with behind-the-scenes photos. She will discuss the care of wild animals in captivity and share personal accounts of wildlife encounters and local volunteer rescue efforts.”
Many of the animal residents at Speaking of Wildlife have been injured, orphaned, abandoned or illegally kept as pets and cannot be returned to the wild where they belong. Where appropriate, these animals become ambassadors for the species when Krystal teaches audiences across the province about the animals we share our environment with.
Krystal Hewitt is a wildlife biologist with a bachelor of science in wildlife biology from the University of Guelph. She has worked with animals — farm, domestic and wildlife — for 20-plus years. A farmer’s daughter, Krystal now puts her passion and education to good use caring for the 50-plus unique animal residents in her care at Speaking of Wildlife.
