The Downtown Orillia BIA Board of Management (DOBIA) is pleased to announce the winner of the big draw for $500 in Downtown Dollars.
The draw was made by selecting one of over 100 ballots collected by DOBIA elves (staff) during the 12 Days of Giving promotion. The draw was done over Instagram Live at the Cave Collectables with help from Pikachu on Saturday Dec. 14. The name of the big draw winner is Renee Holloway.
The 12 Days of Giving promotion saw the DOBIA elves visiting businesses in Downtown Orillia from Dec. 3-14 to catch people supporting downtown small businesses. Once “caught” individuals were offered a free gift of Downtown Dollars. Downtown Dollars are a local currency that is accepted as payment at the majority of downtown businesses. On top of that, winners (and their companions) were also given a ballot to enter the draw for $500 in Downtown Dollars.
“Not only were we able to thank people for supporting downtown businesses, but the businesses themselves benefitted from the extra sales generated by the giveaways. It’s a great win/win situation. The winner of the big draw was obviously very happy, but so were all of the other winners. It left people with a very positive feeling about shopping downtown," said Deron Johnston, Executive Director of Downtown Orillia BIA.
The Downtown Orillia BIA is a Business Improvement Area (BIA) which is an association of commercial property owners and their business tenants within a defined footprint who work in partnership with the Municipality to create the conditions for businesses to be successful. Overseen by an elected board of volunteers, the Board makes decisions to beautify, promote and animate the area.
