NEWS RELEASE
YMCA OF SIMCOE/MUSKOKA

Following the announcement of its Forward Together Fund, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is holding engagement sessions for local residents of the communities they serve to gather input about how the Y can best serve them.
The engagement sessions kick off in Orillia with four sessions open to the public.
The goal of the engagement sessions is for the YMCA to best understand the needs of Orillia and area, and how the Y might be able to play a role in meeting those needs. In Orillia, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka currently offers licensed child care, day camp, outdoor education, youth services, and immigrant services programs.
“We know we have an important role to play in the growth of our region, and we want to better understand residents’ needs, both now and in the future, and how we can support them by investing in our programs and services in new and innovative ways,” said Jill Tettmann, CEO of the YMCA Simcoe/Muskoka.
The engagement sessions will be held both in-person and virtually, and will be facilitated by Byrch & Associates, a third-party consultant who will report their findings to the YMCA’s CEO and board of directors. Community members can attend one of the following sessions:
- Monday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — Virtual session via Zoom
- Thursday, April 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Virtual session via Zoom
- Wednesday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — Orillia Public Library, large meeting room
- Thursday, April 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Orillia Public Library, large meeting room
“We know that the residents of Orillia and area have seen their access to our services change, and so we’re committed to working together to find the best ways to provide support. That’s why we’re starting our sessions in Orillia — we’re committed to this community and its overall health and well-being,” said Todd Young, chair of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s board of directors.
Interested individuals must pre-register for sessions in advance via email at [email protected]. If you cannot attend a session, the YMCA is encouraging individuals to comment by sending an email to [email protected].
