Yoga club stretches proceeds from final classes to Sharing Place

Open to Grace Christian Yoga teacher Sandy Patrick keeping eye out for new location after Westmount church closure

NEWS RELEASE
OPEN TO GRACE CHRISTIAN YOGA

Students from Open to Grace Christian Yoga at Westmont Congregation, the United Church of Canada, donate the proceeds of their final classes at the church to The Sharing Place Food Centre located at 95 Dufferin St.

“It has been a joy to teach out of my home church since 2012,” says Sandy Patrick. “The support, prayers and encouragement of staff, leaders and church members at Westmount made it possible to offer this ministry.

Patrick added, “I believe that all that we do in our everyday lives can be an offering of worship to God, including when we gather for fitness in community together. Students have become friends who also nourish the teacher. We all share much in common as we navigate challenging times and joyful times. We have learned together, grown in our faith as we take the opportunity in our classes to affirm biblical truth through readings, prayer, music and introspective pauses. With the church now closed, I am taking some time to pray about next steps and a new location. I don’t want to run ahead of God but be patient for other opportunities or another location.”

Sandy Patrick initially trained and became qualified as a YMCA yoga teacher through the Orillia YMCA in 2009 and volunteered for a number of years. In 2012, she attended the yoga teacher training program at Yahweh Yoga based in Chandler, Ariz., and is registered with Yoga Alliance. She teaches chair yoga, gentle yoga and gentle flow yoga. Her website offers yoga videos for all levels: www.opentogracechristianyoga.ca.
