What: Bridging Pages Book Club
Date: Feb. 12, 2025
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Orillia Public Library Programming Room
Admission: free, no commitment required

The Bridging Pages Book Club is a youth-led initiative that is hosting its first meeting on Feb. 12, and you’re invited to join the conversation.

Hosted at the Orillia Public Library, this book club brings together readers of all ages and backgrounds to explore important topics. The first theme for discussion will be climate change.

What makes Bridging Pages unique is that participants will choose their own book to read, as long as it is related to the topic for that meeting. This allows for a diverse range of perspectives and an interesting discussion. Whether you prefer nonfiction, fiction, e-books or graphic novels, there’s a book for everyone. The organizers have created a booklist with the help of a library staff member. You can choose one from there or read a book you already know.

While the main focus is bringing together seniors and youth, the book club is open to all ages and there’s no need for long-term commitment — just come when you can. Whether you’re an avid reader or new to book clubs, everyone is welcome, with free entry to each meeting.

This is a great opportunity to make connections, meet new people, and dive into an important topic in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Everyone will have a chance to share their thoughts about the book they read and learn something new from others.

The book club is part of the larger Rainbow Initiative in Orillia, which has been actively encouraging and supporting youth with great ideas to turn them into reality. Rainbow Initiative and Bridging Pages Book Club are both supported by Kiwanis Club of Orillia.

How to participate:

  1. Register by emailing [email protected].
  2. Choose a book related to climate change. (Once registered, you’ll get the list of book suggestions.)
  3. Join us at the Orillia Public Library for a discussion.
