Forty members of the Orillia Channel Cats brought 2024 to a successful close at the Markham Jingle Bell Meet.
This was the last competition of 2024, so the swimmers were ready to swim fast and achieve personal best times.
"We had a lot of best-time racing from our club and swimmers have achieved a few of their individual goals as well," said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.
Sam Pecorella, 14, broke his 400 individual medley club record from two weeks ago, dropping 2.39 seconds (5:04.45). He also set new club records in the following events: 800 freestyle (9:31.39), 50 backstroke (28.28) and 200 backstroke (2:13.80) and qualified for Ontario Age Groups in the 800 freestyle.
Adair Wieclawek, 16, qualified for Ontario Age Groups in the 50 freestyle
Ava Fairgrieve, 12, qualified for Ontario Age Groups in the 100 butterfly
Harrison Levene, 13, qualified for Ontario Swimming Championships in the 100 backstroke, and Ontario Age Groups in the 400 freestyle.
Team support was evident throughout the weekend and all swimmers are to be commended for a job well done.
