ORILLIA LADY KINGS FIELD LACROSSE
********************
The BMO Nesbitt Burns Orillia Lady Kings senior team traveled to Brampton yesterday and came away with a split after suffering their first loss of the season to Six Nations by a narrow 9-8 margin.
The duo of Kiah Shanks and Camille Vibert continue to be a force on the offensive front as they both are scoring at a furious rate for the Lady Kings.
Orillia’s first game would see the Lady Kings face off against the Oshawa Lady Blue Knights and Shanks would lead the scoring barrage with a 4 goal, 2 assist effort in the 13-3 victory. Vibert would record her own hat trick and assist effort in aiding Emily Van Kessel earning the win in net.
Huntsville native Kyra Meredith would add a pair of goals as well and adding single markers in the win were Kaitlin Van Kessel, Sarah Wood, Camryn Kelly and Jordan Kummer. Morgan Vickers was a force as well in contributing defensively to the low scoring output by the opposition.
The match against Six Nations would see Orillia lead 5-3 at the half. Camille Vibert continued her strong play in the face-off circle and scoring two goals. As well, Meredith, Kummer and Kiah Shanks scored in the first half.
Orillia would extend their lead to 8-4 midway through the second half and perhaps felt the game was in-hand however, lacrosse is a game of momentum and the veteran-laden Six Nations squad would chip away at the Orillia lead scoring four unanswered to tie the game up with 1:30 left.
With the ensuing face off win, the Nations would take control and make their way down the field and score the eventual game winner with 0:19 left, cementing the win and tagging the Lady Kings with their first loss of the season.
Final game statistics would see Vibert (3G, 1A), Shanks (2G), Meredith (1G), Kummer (1G) and Sarah Wood (1G). After 6 games, Shanks leads to Lady Kings with 20 goals while Vibert is close behind with 16 to this point.
