Local athletes show off their chops at Toronto karate tourney

Members of the Orillia Academy of Karate recently participated in the Toronto Academy of Karate, Fitness and Health Tournament.

Recently, on June 22, the Orillia Academy of Karate participated in the 48th annual Toronto Academy of Karate, Fitness and Health Tournament with a group of 10 students participating.

Students took part in kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). The Orillia dojo brought home 12 awards. The white belts were excellent in their very first tournament.

White belts Audrey MacDonnell, Maximus Imbeau, Nathan Brilhante and Isaac Cuthbertson all showed well and should be quite proud of their results. They showed great spirit and improvement.

White belt — Isaac Cuthbertson, third in kumite
Green belt — Michelle McLean, second in kata and third in kumite
Blue belt — Logan Feltham, first in kata and second in kumite
Brown belt — Riley Masnica, first in kata and third in kumite
Black belt — Stacie Theis, second in kata
Black belt — Jack Shell, third in kata and second in kumite
Black belt — Gerry Ramsay, first in kata and third in kumite
