ORILLIA CHANNEL CATS

The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed at the 2018 Union Cup held in Markham at the Pan Am Centre. Forty-two swimmers from Orillia were in attendance.
“We were rested for this meet so the expectation was to get up and swim fast. We had a lot of personal bests overall which was the plan," said Head Coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.
Seven club records were broken. Blythe Wieclawek (13) broke the 13/14 girls short course 100 Individual Medley (1:12.20) and long course 50 backstroke (33.43).
Rowan Hart (17) broke the 15 and over male short course 50 metre breaststroke (31.69) and the long course (31.87) 50 metre breaststroke.
Grier Kershaw (17) broke the 15 and over male long course 100 metre breaststroke (1:11.18) and 200 metre breaststroke (2:34.17). Caleb Near (16) broke his own 50 metre backstroke long course record (27.92).
Ariel McGee (13) qualified for Provincial Festivals in the 100 metre butterfly.
“Ariel’s goal was to make Festivals this meet, she stuck to the plan and achieved it,” added Thompson-Edwards.
