ORILLIA CHANNEL CATS SWIM CLUB

Forty members of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed at the Barrie Trojan Cup.
Most swimmers competed in seven individual events and some competed in an eliminator event. The eliminator is a test of endurance, with eight swimmers competing for a specified distance, and the last person to the wall is out until there are two people left racing.
Ava Fairgrieve made it to the last two swimmers in her age group, just missing taking the cup.
Other swimmers who participated in the eliminator include Jace Black, Sophia Brown, Maelle Bouchard and Sam Pecorella.
All of our participants put a lot of effort into the eliminator. Sam Pecorella (14) broke the 13/14 boys short course club record in the 400-metre individual medley (5:06.84) and Jace Black (11) qualified for the new Ontario Age Group Championships in the 100- and 200-metre backstroke.
"Swim Ontario made more difficult standards this season and eliminated the Ontario Festival Championships for 12-and-under swimmers, which had slightly slower time standards," said coach Justin Fairgrieve.
"We are pleased we are starting to get more swimmers qualified for the new provincial championships Ontario Age Groups and the Ontario Swimming Championships," added head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.
Lilly Edgerton was selected by meet management as the swimmer with the most team spirit during the 12-and-under sessions.
