Orillia Hawks soar to gold in first pre-season tournament

U15BB team then went on to win four games in regular-season action

The Orillia U15BB Hawks won gold in their first pre-season tournament in September.

In their first pre-season tournament, the Orillia U15BB Hawks won gold.

The tournament was held in Orillia over the weekend of Sept. 20 to 22. The team played against the Barrie Sharks, Orangeville Tigers and Ancaster Avalanche.

The girls scored an impressive 17 goals throughout the weekend. Goalies Olivia Weaver and Sawyer Seberry defended Orillia’s net with determination with only five goals against the team over the three days. Isabella Cheslock had a hat trick with a total of six goals throughout the tournament. Kaydence Thompson had three impressive goals, while Emilija Ligers had two. Singles were scored by Lauren Torrance, Ellie Lynch, Beth Lewis, Peyton Hoyt, Molly Mee and Kallie Yakeley.

The games would not have been won without the assists from Cabot Ferguson, Lauren Torrance, Beth Lewis, Kallie Yakeley, Peyton Hoyt, Kailee Taylor-Wood, Ellie Lynch, Kaydence Thompson, Emilija Ligers and Olivia Weaver. Congratulations on your tournament win.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, the U15BB Orillia Hawks played their first season game against the Orangeville Tigers. The Hawks put on a good show with a 2-0 win. Ellie Lynch and Jorgia Kitcher both scored with Molly Mee and Isabella Cheslock taking the assists. Hawks goalie Sawyer Seberry got the first shutout of the season.

The following day, Oct. 6, the Hawks went up against the North York Storm. The Hawks outplayed the Storm winning the game 4-2. The Hawks goals were scored by Cabot Ferguson, Emilija Ligers and with Jorgia Kitcher knocking in two. Assists were awarded to Kaydence Thompson, Peyton Hoyt and Ellie Lynch.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Hawks played their first home game in Gravenhurst against the North York Storm. And a storm it was. The Hawks defeated the North with a 3-0 win. The game’s goals were scored by Emilija Ligers, Kallie Yakeley and Kaydence Thompson. Ellie Lynch and Emilija Ligers helped the team out with assists. Sawyer Seberry had her second shutout of the season.

Sunday, Oct. 20 saw the Orillia Hawks pick up their fourth win of the season over the Barrie Sharks. Olivia Weaver made eight saves, giving her a second shutout. The players had 19 shots on net. Molly Mee, Lauren Torrance, Kallie Yakeley and Ellie Lynch each landed a goal. Kallie Yakeley, Emilija Ligers, Jorgia Kitcher (two), Kaydence Thompson, Lauren Torrance, Livi Wiseman all had assists.
