Orillia Lady Kings net success in lead-up to provincials

Teams had dominating wins in recent action, will take part in provincials over next couple of weeks

What a weekend the U15 Lady Kings had.

Back-to-back wins in Oakville solidified their place for provincials. The hot weather was no deterrent. The Dan Parnell Royal LePage Orillia U15 Lady Kings hit the ground running in their first game on Saturday, July 13 against the Newmarket Redbirds. The ladies were on fire, winning with a score of 12-6. Billie Rouse dominated the scoreboard with five goals. Morgan Parnell and Rayne Noganosh each scored two goals. Jana Ball, Chloe Weiler, Molly Bergeron all had singles to round out the score. Assists were made by Samantha Harper, Billie Rouse and Elyse Faulkner. Defensive Player of the Game went to Kaydence Thompson and Offensive Player of the Game was awarded to Ella Sage.

In the second game of the day, the ladies dominated the field with a 17-7 win over the Halton Hills Bulldogs. There was no stopping them. Singles were scored by Kaydence Thompson, Elyse Faulkner, Ryleigh McGuire, Morgan Parnell and Molly Bergeron. Rayne Noganosh scored two goals. Ellie Lynch landed an impressive four goals while Billie Rouse scored a remarkable two hat tricks. Jana Ball had two assists while Molly Bergeron, Katie Bunting, Billie Rouse and Eiley Hayes had single assists. Offensive Player of the Game went to Ellie Lynch while the Defensive Player of the Game was awarded to Kaelyn Drennan.

Katie Bunting played exceptionally as the goalie in both games.

Coaching staff Amelia Obee, Anna Lajoie and Riley Marwick will be preparing the team for provincials this week as Lady Kings head to Kitchener-Waterloo to play in the A division July 19 to 21, 2024.

The John Mayo Nesbitt Burns U19 team ended their regular season with two strong games. The girls demonstrated excellent ball movement, resulting in some quick goals to keep them in close with Hamilton Bengals. The girls fought hard throughout the game but came up short, losing 11-7. Mya Roe scored twice and Emma Pilger, Hayley Ball, Emersyn McLaughlin, Ava Wara and Jayden Taylor each scored once.

In our other match of the day, the girls played the Mimico Mountaineers and dominated the play throughout the game with excellent defence from Caitlin McLaughlin, Kennedy Clarke and Claudia Page. Brooklyn Page was excellent at both ends of the field. Kaelyn McDonald was a force on offence, scoring four goals. Emersyn McLaughlin continued on her scoring streak, hitting the back of the net three times, and Jayden Taylor and Mya Roe each scored twice, and rounding out the scoring was Emma Pilger with one. The girls have been working hard and have really come together as a team. They are looking forward to provincials this weekend in Kitchener.

U19 1, sponsored by 2nd Century Source for Sports, showcased their dominance in two impressive wins this past weekend, setting the stage for a strong entry into the upcoming provincials. The team’s first victory against Burlington with a commanding 14-3 scoreline highlighted their offensive prowess, with standout performances from players like Jayden Maracle, Olivia Glass and Catherine Varley. The solid defensive play further solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with on the field.

In their second game against Six Nations, the U19 girls faced a physical challenge but rose to the occasion with exceptional ball movement and teamwork. The 14-3 win underscored their skill and determination, with players Olivia Glass, Hannah Rudge and Sofia Ceccanese leading the charge in scoring. The inclusion of U15 goalie Katie Bunting, who delivered stellar performances, added to the team’s depth and resilience.

Heading into provincials as the second seed, U19 1 is poised for success with upcoming match-ups against familiar opponents. The team’s cohesive play, individual talents, and unwavering spirit set the stage for an exciting journey towards the championship title. With their recent victories serving as a testament to their skill and dedication, the U19 girls are ready to make their mark in the upcoming provincial tournament.

The U11 squad also showed up in Oakville ready to play. They faced off in their first game against Six Nations, and came out with a 21-7 win. Brielle Hodgkinson-Armstrong lit it up with eight goals, Ali Almeida had five, Violet Whelan scored four, while Rebekah Lacroix and Lauren Bomberry each had a pair. Yvonne Lee continues to be phenomenal in goal for the U11s.

In their second game, the U11s played against a strong home team, the Oakville Lady Hawks. Orillia once again showed up in force determined to win. After a great deal of back-and-forth play, Orillia came out on top in an 18-14 win. Delilah Lafraugh got the Orillia team going with the first goal of the game. Brielle Hodkinson-Armstrong and Rebekah Lacroix each scored five goals, Violet Whelan and Ali Almeida both scored hat tricks and Lauren Bomberry scored a single. Yvonne Lee was once again solid in net, and Kayla Beard was superb on defence.

The U11s are all set to play in their provincial tournament in Oshawa on the weekend of the 26th to 28th.
