On Aug. 17 Steve Millar and Brian Minns from the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club won the District 13 Novice Aussie Pairs competition hosted by the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club in Bracebridge.

The pair earned the right to represent District 13 at the provincial championships held in Midland.

Sixteen teams from all over Ontario took part in the provincial competition over Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Eight teams advanced to the finals on Day 2, including the Orillia pair.

In the end, Steve and Brian won all three of their games with a combined score of 41 points for and only 16 against, capturing the Provincial Novice Men’s Aussie Pairs championship and gold-medal honours for the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club.

Orillia Lawn Bowling Club teams have been doing extremely well in out-of-town competition, and the pairs team of Brian Minns and Robb Barsevich scored an eight-ender in Stayner on Aug. 21. An eight-ender is the equivalent of a hole-in-one in golf, or an eight-ender in curling — a masterful achievement.
