Orillia Minor Hockey caps season with awards (10 photos)

Orillia’s top players, coaches and volunteers of 2021-22 were recognized with year-end awards

Another minor hockey season has been put on ice.

To mark the end of another successful season, Orillia Minor Hockey has recognized the top players, coaches and volunteers of 2021-22 with year-end awards.

The following are this year’s award winners.

Mike Borrelli won the Cameron Long Award that is presented to the team official that best exemplifies the qualities of dedication, commitment and leadership.

Sam Reda was recognized with the Michael Thompson Memorial Award, which goes to “the player who best exemplifies the qualities of dedication, co-operation, desire, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, academic proficiency and community involvement.”

Kyle Dickson is this year’s winner of the William Troian Memorial Award, which is presented to the U8 house league player who shows the greatest degree of improvement over the season and displays enthusiasm and dedication.

Thomas Goard was named the most valuable player on a rep team within Orillia Minor Hockey.

In the house league division, the MVP went to Brody Howe.

The Ron McKay Volunteer of the Year Award was presented this year to Coyer Yateman. This award is presented annually to an individual who has volunteered his or her time for the betterment of hockey in Orillia.

Ethan Yateman won the Archie Rankin Memorial Award. This award is presented to an aspiring referee who has demonstrated the character, determination and ability to apply themselves with integrity and pride while performing their duties as an official representing the Orillia Minor Hockey Association.

The Steve Wiles Memorial MVP Award was presented to Owen Palaro. This award is presented annually to a graduating U18 rep player who demonstrates skills, determination and sportsmanship.

Tucker Northcott won the Craig Billington Goaltender Award for demonstrating outstanding dedication to the goaltender position, working hard to improve positional play and the ability to perform at a high level of play.

Brandon Winger earned the Alexander Montgomery Memorial Award which is for an U11 House League Player who demonstrates team spirit, dedication, cooperation and enthusiasm.

(Prior to 2016, the MVP awards for rep and house league divisions replaced the Doc McKinnon and Ken McNabb Awards.)

The Esso Medals of Achievement were also presented to the most improved, most sportsmanlike and most dedicated players on each house league and each rep team. The following players were recognized:
