Orillia softball team reigns, wins 13th title in last 15 seasons

Orillia National Nutrition senior softball team defeated Muskoka in doubleheader and will look to repeat as champions of year-end tournament Sept. 10

ORILLIA NATIONAL NUTRITION SENIOR SOFTBALL TEAM

The Orillia National Nutrition senior softball team finished the season with a doubleheader win over the Muskoka Hitmen and remain Simcoe Muskoka Senior Softball League champions for 13 of the past 15 years.

Barrie Kage finished second, followed by Barrie Legends, Huronia Grey Jays, Wasaga Beach Warriors and the Muskoka Hitmen.

National Nutrition came out hitting in route to a 14-4 win in Game 1 versus Muskoka. For Orillia, Chris Beelik hit a home run while Dave Stanford was perfect at the plate. Wayne Martin and Rob Milligan shared pitching duties for the win.

Game 2 of the doubleheader was much closer for National Nutrition as the Muskoka squad kept Orillia at bay until the fifth inning, when Martin tripled in three runs to go ahead and win 10-8. Rick Gardy, Gary Molnar, Randy Lee and Stanford were all perfect at the plate while Milligan and Martin continued to share pitching duties.

Orillia now has a week off in preparation for the year-end tournament in Bracebridge Sept. 10, where they hope to repeat as league tournament champions as well.
