The McLean and Dickey Orillia Terriers continue to prove they are one of the top Jr. C hockey teams in Ontario.
The local squad defeated their nemesis, the Stayner Siskins, 5-1 on Saturday night, improving their impressive Provincial Junior Hockey League record to 25-3-1.
Incredibly, that is only good enough for second place in the North Carruthers division, where Alliston leads the way with a 30-0-1 record. But the Terriers' record is good enough for third place (in terms of winning percentage) in the entire 63-team league.
On Saturday against the Siskins, the first period was a close, tight-checking affair until the home side got two late goals from Kaiden Robitaille and Marcus Petroff to take a 2-0 goal lead in to the second frame.
The second period saw the Terriers get an early goal by Devon Edmonds, before Ryan Russel would get the Siskins on the board. Colton Dumond would give the Terriers a 4-1 lead after two periods.
The third saw Dante Cugliari score a short-handed goal to round out the scoring and give the Terriers an important two points in the standings.
Aiden Jerry, who had a strong game between the pipes, earned the victory. Petroff, with a goal and two assists, was named the star of the game.
But for many fans at Rotary Place, the star of the night was Rama First Nation's Sydney Sawyer, who was honoured in a pre-game ceremony for her part in helping Canada bring home gold at the Under 18 Women’s World Championships in Finland.
The Terriers next see action Saturday night at home when they host the Midland Flyers in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Rotary Place. They will head to Huntsville for a Sunday afternoon tilt against the Otters.
