Your Orillia Tennis Club’s first tournament of 2024 features the biggest and latest racket craze to grip North America and it’s not what you may be thinking.
It’s triples tennis — six on the court at the same time. With three per side, it is fast-paced, strategy-filled tennis on a whole new level. After we had such a blast in the recent past, it returns to the Orillia Tennis Club for 2024. Members can pick their own team registering in their online player portal or members can sign up as a single and organizers will place them on a team, a team of triples. The other part of this new racket craze is the costumes. That’s right. We said costumes. Teams pick a theme and come dressed appropriately. (One year we had Batman, Robin and Catwoman take the courts. Other teams have chosen something simple like matching blue attire.)
What can you expect if you decide to come watch? Here’s how it works. Teams of three (or fourth person will rotate in) take the court at the same time. There is a minimum of one female and one male per team with one at the service line (side), two at the baseline to start. After the serve is in play any configuration is available. Spin for first serve. The server serves the ball cross court as normal and continues to serve from the deuce court on each point until their team loses a point. (Server only serves from the deuce court.) One serve only, not two. (This evens the playing field.) Win a point on every serve. When you lose a point, you rotate clockwise. Serving team continues in the same positions (same server) until they lose a point. Players at baseline can come in at any time. Players move on the court as they wish during play.

Registration is on now for all paid members of the Orillia Tennis Club to participate. Not a member? Pick your own costumes or theme for costumes. Fill in the description box as you register and let us know your registration status (single or team). It is fast paced and communication is key.
