On Feb. 19, the Twin Lakes Secondary School junior boys basketball team defeated Georgian Bay District Secondary School 68-32 to win the Simcoe County Athletic Association AA finals.

This win allowed the boys to advance to the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) finals held at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School.

On Monday, Feb. 24, the Twin Lakes junior boys basketball team travelled to Barrie for the GBSSA semis and finals. In the semis, the boys had to encounter Holy Trinity from Bradford. With a very long and talented team, the boys hit the ground running and got up early. However, one of our top players, Takoda, tore his ankle and was unable to continue. It was looking grim, but fortunately, Reed and Max had rattled their superstar enough to give us a decent lead. It was a dogfight to the end, but Twin was able to come out on top and win the GBSSA semifinals 80-67.

Now on to play top dog St. Joe’s, the team that has dominated GBSSAs over the last decade. Swimming uphill and now the underdogs, and without a key player, Twin battled for the entire first half. As they were tossed around like Plinko chips, they managed to go into halftime tied 30-30.

After the break, Twin went on a remarkable 12-point run. Kale Cherubin was unstoppable, hitting threes and cutting through their defence like a deli meat slicer. The battle continued, and even though a battered Caden McFee’s calves seized up, he was still an unstoppable force, hitting a buzzer beater NBA three to continue to give Twin Lakes the lead into the fourth quarter.

Like a mythical Atlas, Caden bore the weight of the world on his shoulders. The dogfight continued until the last minute. In the end, superb defence by Reed, Max and Kale and clutch foul shooting by Hayden and Caden resulted in your Twin Lakes junior basketball team becoming the AA GBSSA junior boys basketball champions.

A big shout-out to Caden McFee, Takoda Plett, Kale Cherubin, Hayden Vuong, Reed Bowman, Emerson Hoffman, Max King, Brayden Mather, Hudson Aldridge, Aidan Stout, Jackson Leslie, Logan Kelsey, Travis Wright and Jackson MacIntyre. Coaches Buchan, Corry and Bell are very proud of your accomplishments. Let’s go, Twin.
