That chill in the air isn’t the end of summer, it’s the beginning of ice rink activities.
Preparations at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (PMCC) are underway to get ice user groups using the facilities, in anticipation of the week of Sept. 6.
Sherry Desjardins, director of recreation and community services for the town of Penetanguishene, spoke to council members during the committee of the whole meeting, providing an update on the popular ice rink facility.
“We did have a preliminary meeting this evening, just prior to council, with the user groups to start some consultation on possible procedures in keeping with Step 3,” said Desjardins, referring to provincial guidelines within the Roadmap to Reopen.
“They’re quite excited, as are we, to have an ice season upcoming,” Desjardins added. “We’ll all be working on our safety plans, and we’ll be quite happy to get the doors open and the kids on the ice.”
Favourable conditions to begin ice preparations followed confirmation from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit that their mass vaccination clinic would be leaving the PMCC in mid-August.
Information for the PMCC and recreation programs can be found on the town of Penetanguishene website.
