It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valerie at Mariposa House Hospice on January 24, 2025 in her 61st year. She was surrounded by family and is now at peace after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Randy Beard. Proud and devoted mother of Jake (Tianna), and stepmother to Jayme (Ryan) and Dacoda (Michelle). Loving daughter of Douglas (predeceased) and Joan Tribbling; dearly loved sister of Kelly (Doug) and Robin (Brian). Daughter-in-law of the late Robert and Syliva Beard, and sister-in-law to Lorie-Jo (Terry) and Steve. Dear aunt of Ben, Emily (Graeme), Andrew (Aimee), Sadie and Lexie. Much loved step-grandmother to Trent, Liv and Sawyer and great aunt to Huxley. Valerie will be dearly missed by her furry walking companion, Lucy.

Val was born in Markham and moved to Orillia in 1976. She attended Twin Lakes SS and went on to graduate two times from Seneca College, first from the Law Enforcement program and then from the Nursing Program. She spent her first eight years as a Registered Nurse on the surgical floor of North York General Hospital. She then transferred to Soldiers Memorial hospital In Orillia. There she had a long rewarding career and will be remembered as, smart, compassionate, dedicated and hard-working nurse.

Val had an outgoing and fun personality. She was easy to talk to and made many lifelong friends in everything she did including school, work and as an avid Sports mom. She had a rich and full social life and was an important part of many a get together, dinner party and marathon phone conversation. She always had a good story to tell.

Val loved spending time with family, playing cards, listening to music, and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs. She enjoyed the country life and spent many hours walking “the farm” with her dogs Maggie and Lucy. Everyone was welcome in the kitchen, around the campfire and at the card table.

Randy and Jake would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to their extended family and friends for all the love, support and comforting nourishment over this journey, especially these last few weeks. Thank you to the Bayshore Nurses and Palliative nurses for their gentle and devoted care. Special thanks also to Dr. Peter Daniel and Dr. Erika Catford for their support and advice.

And finally, an enormous thank you to all the incredible staff and volunteers at Mariposa House Hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. As per Val's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will be held at the family farm at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mariposa House Hospice in Val’s memory.
