It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Helen Buss. She passed away after a brief illness on September 20, 2024, at the age of 89.

Helen moved from Toronto to Orillia in 1965 to be closer to her daughter who was in the Huronia Regional Centre. Helen was a life long relentless warrior for the rights and freedoms of her daughter Carey and all mentality/intellectual disabled people in Orillia!  She had a great entrepreneurial spirit that included past owner/operator of Orillia Small Motors, DM Buss snow removal, DM Buss Skate Sharpening, Orillia Fix-it Shop, as well as the Orillia Travel Ways Junior B Hockey Club. In the second half of her life, Helen moved to Hamilton to own and operate Goldies Variety Store for 25 years then moved back to Orillia to be closer to her family. Family was everything to Helen!

Fondly remembered by her children Carey Buss, Lawrence Buss (Joy) and Frank Buss all of Orillia. Cherished Gramma of Michael (Jackie), Lauren (Blake) and Great Gramma of Ellinor, Dominic, and Jordan. Dear sister of Mary Smith (predeceased and aunt to Lorrie Dugale and family.

The late Helen Buss will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Sunday, September 29th from 2 - 4 pm. Then to Guardian Angels Church for Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, September 30, 2024, at 2 pm. Interment; St. Michael's Cemetery, Orillia. If desired, memorial donations to Empower Simcoe to help people with mental and intellectual disabilities would be appreciated. Parish Prayers to be said in the Parlours on Sunday afternoon at 1:45 pm. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
