Barb passed away in her home January 31, 2025, her favourite place on earth surrounded by all that she loved. Barb was in her 92nd year.

Survived, loved and deeply missed by her partner Don Anderson and her daughter Julie Cayley (Dale Coe).  Reunited now with her sister Joan (Don) Erickson and brother Charlie Bliss.

Lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Karen (Tim) Erickson (Chicago), Pete (Christina) Erickson (Memphis), Amy (Jeff) Firkins (Brockport), Todd (Kim) Bliss (South Carolina).

Born August 25th, 1933, in Rochester NY to John and Florence (Petrie) Bliss, Barb was a trailblazing woman with her BA from Hood College (Maryland 1955) and a Masters in Education SUNY Brockport (NY).  Barb taught kindergarten in Hilton and Long Island New York and in East York (Toronto).  Barb bravely went back to school in her 40’s as a single parent, getting her Library Science Diploma from Seneca College and working in private libraries for Deloitte & Touche, Interprovincial Pipeline and Canadian Gas Association.

Barb retired to her beloved farm in Oro Medonte, walking, skiing her property, sitting by the river and always taking time to listen and support anyone who needed her.  She proudly tended her flower and vegetable gardens and orchard and looked forward to the crocuses and lilacs and the first of her asparagus every spring.  She was always up for a pancake breakfast at Carley Hall, a drive to see the fall colours with her best friend Don and pushing her walker through the barnyard checking on the horses and eagerly looking for new kittens.  She loved her cats, and you could find her on her porch overseeing her gardens, cuddling her cats and enjoying the sunshine and a book.  Barb was a spicy brave accomplished woman proud to be herself.  The “Bliss Kids” ride again

We would like to thank Jenny and all the PSWs for their kindness and compassionate care of our Barb.

As per Barbs wishes cremation has taken place.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Please consider making a donation in Barbs memory to www.severnsound.ca (pollinator and tree programs) your local Human Society or any charity of your choice.
