It is with great sadness that we announce that Noni Joanne Lynn Cherry, 69, has passed away in the early hours of March 4th,2025 at Royal Victoria Hospital. She fought a long and brave battle against Cancer, passing surrounded by Family and Friends. Many thanks to CCRAN (Filomena), Sunnybrook team, and UHN trial team for support and treatment.
Noni was born on April 20th, 1955, in Barrie to parents Marion and Elton Parker. She was the youngest sibling and only sister to Jon, Brian and Jamie Parker. Over the years, she developed many of her lifelong passions, such as curling (third generation), Cruising, dancing and cultivating her artistic creativity for making crafts, costumes and jewelry.
She attended Eastview High School, where she would meet her future husband, Stephen Cherry. They would date through school and University/College, marrying at Trinity Anglican Church in Barrie on June 24th, 1978.
Looking to start their own family was difficult, Noni and Stephen where fortunate to start with the first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program at Toronto East General hospital (now Michael Garron) welcoming their beloved twin sons, Sean and Ian Cherry, Canada’s first test tube twins conceived in this country. Noni would go on to help be a proponent for the program, also joining other parenting organizations such as Parents of Multiple Births Association (POMBA).
After high school, Noni would follow her dream of becoming a nurse, studying at George Brown College in Toronto. While working at various locations, she would eventually come to work at (now named) Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket. Here she worked in the Postpartum unit, helping many new mothers and children, especially those with twins.
Noni had a remarkable ability to connect with people whether it was at work, traveling, curling, POMBA, Eastview reunions or many other events. Noni would always be remembered for her infectious laugh and simply being a joy to be around.
Mother, Sister, Wife, Nurse and overall great friend, Noni will live on in the memories of her husband, Stephen, sons Sean and Ian, brothers and sister in-laws Jon and Glo, Brian and Joan, Jamie and Sandy Parker, lifelong friend Monica Cox and in-law Ann and Roy McKeen. She was aunt to Brydon, Sarah, Amy, Joel, Amanda, Matt, Don, Suzanne and Britt, and beloved Nana to Seth and Sadey.
A Celebration of Noni's life will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (Parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building) on Sunday, April 20, 2025 with words of comfort starting at 2 o'clock p.m. immediately followed by a reception and words of remenbrance.
