Passed away in Barrie on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 80 years.
Beloved daughter of the late Jan deMunnik and Everdina G. Huis in t Veld/deMunnik. Loving sister of Tom (Fran predeceased), Mary, George (Marg), John predeceased, Wim (Donna), Wijnand predeceased, Herman predeceased and Dorothy. Dear aunt of Dianne, Susan, Jennifer, Carol, Nancy, Michael, Julie, Douglas, Anthony and great aunt to her 17 great nieces and nephews. Alice was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. She attended Guardian Angels School and O.D.C.V.I. in Orillia before heading for Toronto.
Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree (English) from York University and a Bachelor of Education as well as a Master of Education from the University of Toronto. Her career included teaching positions at Seneca College, Ryerson University and the law firm of Blake, Cassels & Graydon, all in Toronto. She was also an executive secretary and supervisor at law firms in Toronto and Vancouver and a psychotherapist in private practice. In her later years, Alice taught writing classes and edited books, anthologies and university essays.
She loved reading, wrote poems, a novel, a non-fiction book, a memoir and two collections of short stories and was a member of as many as four writing groups in Orillia and Toronto. She was an avid supporter of the Lifescapes Program at the Orillia Public Library and mentored a number of emerging writers as well as editing their annual anthology. Alice had a great love for humanity and had a wide circle of friends from all over the world wherever she lived. She was keenly interested in history, geography, and world cultures. Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Alice's Life will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia, on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 1 - 3 pm with Sharing of Memories at 2 pm.
