We sadly announce the passing of Dr. William P.V. Gardner (Bill) on July 16 in Orillia at the age of 85. He passed peacefully, with his beloved family by his side.

Bill was born in Toronto on Feb. 14, 1939, the son of the late Dr. Percy N. & Carmelita M. (Sheridan) Gardner. His life truly began at age 21. While hospitalized for a minor ailment, he met a beautiful and compassionate nurse whom he vowed to marry. Florence (nee Arsenault) became the love of his life and cherished wife of 60 years.

Bill was a kind, caring and gifted family doctor with his private practice in Toronto. He also served as the doctor at DeHavilland Aircraft. Countless stories from patients over the years attest to the positive impact he had on their lives.

After retirement, Bill and Flo moved to “The Lake” on 8 Mile Point, his favourite place in the world. Their home brought joy to so many who visited. Bill was a people person with an encyclopedic knowledge of facts and jokes that he wove skillfully throughout conversations. He always strove to leave people a little better than he found them. Through Flo, Bill was an honourary PE Islander, and he thoroughly enjoyed getting together with his PEI family.

Always a loving and proud husband to Florence (nee Arsenault); loving father to Bill (Denise), Bob (Annie), and Jim (Leanne); and proud Papa to Katelyn, Christopher & Jake; Jayson & Marisol; Madeleine & Cole.

His warm hugs and entertaining stories will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. His loving and caring attitude towards others will continue to inspire and stay with us forever.

Celebrate Bill’s life with us on Friday, July 26 – with visitation at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia, from 11:30 a.m. to time of Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 115 West St. N., Orillia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation.
