It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Grace Lawrie at Mariposa House Hospice on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2024, at the age of 90. She will be deeply missed and leaves behind her loving daughter Sandra Lawrie and her granddaughters Shayla Ewart and Teagan Ewart.

Beloved wife of 49 years to the late Gerald Lawrie (Aug 15, 2006) and beloved mother of the late Coleen Lawrie (Feb 14, 1976)
Loving daughter to the late Donald and Bella McArthur (Link) McArthur.

Dear sister of Aubrey & Madeleine McArthur (MacDonald) predeceased, Donald (Bud) McArthur (predeceased), George (Lorraine) McArthur (Oakley) and Ronald McArthur (predeceased) Elizabeth (Betty) (Oakley). Loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews, she will be missed and fondly remembered as Auntie Grace.

Grace was born on April 2,1934 in Oro-Medonte, the third child and only daughter of five. She quickly learned to be a tough nut with 2 older brothers and the protective big sister to her 2 younger brothers. Living on the farm was not the life for her, so she worked in Orillia at a grocery store and had her own apartment. In November 1956 she was set up on a date with the man who would become the love of her life, Gearld Lawrie. They were married Sept 21, 1957, and moved to Toronto where they would live for 25 years and welcome 2 daughters. Grace worked at Dominion Stores Head office in the store planning department for many years until tragically, in 1976 they lost their 17-year-old daughter Coleen. In 1982, seven years later they moved back to the Orillia area on their Lake Couchiching property in Severn with their youngest daughter Sandra. Grace was the night supervisor at Shoppers Drug Mart on Front Street for 7+ years and in 1989 started her career as a Life Insurance Agent & Financial Planner until she officially retired 25 years later in 2015.

Grace was a woman of character, headstrong and opinionated, strong willed and a feminist who had to fight every step of the way in her life. Her life was filled with love, joy, sorrow, tragedy and heartbreak but she said she would not have changed her journey. She is now reunited with her love my Dad and her daughter Coleen, something she always wanted. Her body is no longer in pain and her heart is no longer shattered. She is now free, singing and dancing in the havens with her family and friends she's lost along the way. You can now rest Mom; I Love you more than you will ever know.

The family extends its sincere appreciation for the care and compassion provided by Paige and Sydney at OSMH and Jenifer & Teresa at Mariposa House Hospice.

Family and Friends will be received at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes , 54 Coldwater Street East Orillia on Friday January 3rd, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral service at Doolittle Chapel on Saturday January 4th, 2025, at 11:00am. Interment at Bethel Cemetery, Gravenhurst and a memorial tree will be planted in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Grace may be made to Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia or Carters Forever Rescue & Sanctuary in Bracebridge.
