It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Barry Lutes, age 72, on July 19, 2024, after a short but fearless battle with cancer.

Born in Orillia, Ontario, Barry was known for his sense of humor, athletic achievements, and strong moral fiber. He graduated from Park Street Collegiate Institute and went on to have a successful career in sales with a number of global tire companies until venturing out into his own tire shop in Calgary, AB. He ran "Commercial Tire" until he achieved his goal of "freedom 55".

Predeceased by his parents, Bud and Marie Lutes as well as his brother Dan Lutes, Barry is survived by his children Craig (Birmingham, Alabama), Tyler (Calgary, AB), Curtis (Barrie, ON), Jared (Heidi) (Orillia, ON), Brett (Whistler, BC) his beautiful granddaughter, Abby (Waterton, AB) and his loving partner of thirty-six years Colleen Mathews. Barry will be fondly remembered by his siblings Timothy Lutes of Barrie, ON, Susan Mathieson (Bill) of Barrie, ON, Janie Lee (Peter) of Ramara, ON, Shelley Fisher (Greg) of Severn, ON, Laurie Lutes of Barrie, ON along with many nieces and nephews.

Barry was a natural athlete and had a life full of sports accomplishments. But, for someone who took up golfing at 10, he was most proud of achieving the coveted "hole in one" during his retirement years and of qualifying and running the Boston Marathon twice after taking up running at the age of 58.

As per his wishes there will be no service at this time. If desired, donations may be made to charity of your choice

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Unit 47 of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary for their compassionate care and support during Barry's illness.

Barry's legacy of humour and wit will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Barry's life is being planned for later in Sept in Orillia. Please watch for a notification of the date and time where the family would welcome all those who wish to share a story
