Earl was best friend, husband and fierce cribbage opponent to Ruth, the love of his life for 57 years. To see them together was to witness true love, fierce loyalty and the most special bond built on friendship and mutual respect.
He was the cherished father, best friend and confidante to his two daughters, Leslie (Paul) and Cindy (Chris). He instilled his love of nature and the outdoors as well as his many creative outlets in his two girls.
Proudest Poppa and biggest supporter of his three grandchildren, Morgan, Chas & Ethan. Earl had such a special bond with his grandkids and garnered much joy watching their extra curricular activities, teaching them about woodworking, fishing, and driving the boat.
Brother in law to Harry and John Mason, and special Uncle to Kelly and Shane Stanley. Earl was predeceased by his father Owen, mother Daphne and sister Gloria.
As city planner of Orillia for 30 years, Earl met many people through his work and was well known for his willingness to help, specialized knowledge and exceptional problem solving capabilities.
Those closest to him will fondly remember his wicked sense of humour, his ability to fix almost anything, and his creative side - woodcarving, painting, playing guitar and his love for music.
He had so many special friendships - from bandmates to his fishing and hunting crew and his buddies at the Orillia Gun Club. Earl lived his life to the fullest and his hobbies afforded him many fond relationships. His family will take some small comfort knowing his memories live on with us and we know he will be happily strumming his guitar, wherever he may be.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and ER staff at OSMH for their kindness, compassion and exemplary care. A special thank you to Dr. Ho and family physician Dr. Peter Daniel.
As per Earl’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a donation to the OSMH Emergency Department or spend the money on taking a friend out to catch up over coffee, one of the many things Earl enjoyed doing.
He will be greatly missed.
Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
