Our mission at OrilliaMatters is to strengthen the communities we serve and in the spirit of strengthening the Orillia community, we are spearheading a food drive in support of The Sharing Place Food Centre.
The holidays can be a stressful time for many families and now more than ever, the food bank needs our help to keep the shelves stocked.
In response to that need, we asked our friends at Jason’s No Frills to donate gift cards for our loyal readers to purchase for the food bank through an online pop-up store.
OrilliaMatters then matched whatever was purchased as a cash donation to the food bank.
But that’s not all.
We know that Orillia is full of caring individuals and businesses who would generously donate to this initiative as well. So, we contacted a number of local businesses to see if they would also like to match reader contributions with a cash donation.
As a result, for every gift card purchased in our pop-up store from now until Dec. 15 at 12 p.m., each dollar will be matched four times and all proceeds will go directly to the food bank.
That means your $25 donation will be turned into a $125 donation!
Here is how you can buy a food package in support of The Sharing Place Food Centre:
- Log in to your OrilliaMatters account (or register for free).
- Select a gift card you would like to donate and enter your credit card details.
- Check the 'Confirm’ button and click ‘Donate’ to confirm your purchase.
- That's it, you did it! You gave back to our community this holiday season.
Thanks to Jason’s No Frills for donating the gift cards for this initiative, and to the following businesses who have joined us in matching each donation: Highway 11 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Orser Technical Services and Print and Signs.
OrilliaMatters is proud to lead this worthwhile cause in an effort to reduce hunger and poverty in our community, particularly as the holiday season draws near.
Programs like this and support from businesses and community members - like you - help us to give back to Orillia.
