Area police are investigating a theft of almost $100,000 in silver bars from a Meaford home.

A scant news release explained the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police reported to a theft on Oct. 23 at 1:37 p.m. at a home in the Municipality of Meaford.

"As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP learned that over the span of two years, approximately $95,992.00 of silver bars were stolen from the victim's residence," states the news release.

Grey Bruce OPP's media relations staffer, Krista Linthorne, clarified the silver had not been looked at in the last two years, so the theft could have occurred all at once, or gradually.

Silver bars in Canada cost approximately $50-$60 per ounce.

The Grey Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
