South Simcoe Police are investigating a tragic fatal collision that occurred on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024 shortly after 5 p.m. on Simcoe County Road 53 (5 Sideroad) near Line 9 of Innisfil.
A 41-year-old male from Barrie was operating a small electric kick scooter northbound on 5 Sideroad when he became separated from the scooter and ended up on the roadway. The man was subsequently struck by a northbound motorcycle, operated by an 82-year-old male, also from Barrie.
Emergency services attended the scene to treat the scooter operator and ultimately transported him to hospital in Barrie, where he succumbed to his injuries. The motorcycle operator was treated at the scene and is cooperating fully with the police investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the scooter prior to the collision or observed the collision itself to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Constable Matthew Grove of the South Simcoe Police Traffic Unit at 705-436-2141 or 905-775-3311.
