Collingwood Fire Department was called to help after a boater ran ashore on a rock wall in the Collingwood harbour last night, Aug. 25.
According to Collingwood Fire Chief Dan Thurman the call came in at 10:38 p.m. for a boat run aground in the harbour.
Fire crews took the marine rescue boat to the scene where they found the lone occupant standing beside the heavily damaged boat, which was perched on the rocks on Hen and Chickens Island, on the west end of Collingwood harbour.
The fire crew took the boater back to shore where OPP officers were waiting.
Thurman said there was significant damage to the hull of the boat, enough so it was taking on water and would not float. The boat couldn't be moved from the rocks so it was left there.
The boater didn't require medical treatment.
Thurman said the issue of removing the boat from the rocks and bringing it to the shore is between the boat owner and the Coast Guard. Since it won't float, it will have to be loaded onto a barge.
