The roof of a downtown business has collapsed under the weight of snow.
The roof of the building that houses Walking on A Cloud — a longtime downtown shoe store that has been closed for some time — collapsed Monday evening, witnesses say.
While you can't see much from the front of the store, located on West Street, across from the Orillia Opera House, it appears the back of the building has collapsed.
The southern wall of the building appears to be leaning into the alley that separates the building from the former Huronia Trust building.
Orilllia OPP officials say West Street is closed between Mississaga Street and Coldwater Street. They are asking people to avoid the area.
Orillia Fire Chief Chris Ferry confirmed the roof had collapsed and an exterior wall "was leaning" into the alley. He said the neighbouring buildings have not been impacted.
Ferry told OrilliaMatters power and gas had been shut off to the building. He said that block of West Street will be closed throughout the night.
