Original story (1:51 p.m.)
A collision involving approximately 25 vehicles, including a few transport trucks, occurred on Highway 12 near Brechin on Thursday afternoon.
According to Orillia OPP Acting Sgt. Gilles Doiron, the crash happened near Concession 1 at around 1:15 p.m.
“We do have units on scene,” Doiron confirmed. “It seems like it’s a multi-vehicle collision in regard to the weather.”
The driving conditions at the time saw high winds causing whiteouts from blowing snow, noted a media release from Orillia OPP.
There were minor injuries reported, and individuals were treated at the scene or at a local hospital.
The crash took place in an area where drivers typically slow down as they approach Brechin, potentially contributing to the pileup amid poor weather conditions, Doiron told OrilliaMatters. Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area while emergency crews clear the scene.
Drivers are reminded by OPP to exercise caution on the roads, especially as unpredictable weather conditions continue.
As of 2 p.m. Highway 12 was closed in both directions between Concession Road 3 and Concession Road A.
