Driver charged in two-vehicle crash that closed Hwy.11 overnight

“One vehicle was reported as catching fire which was put out," says OPP spokesperson

A crash on Highway 11 north sent several people to hospital, and left all northbound lanes closed for more than eight hours Saturday night.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Highway 11 northbound near Line 2 in Shanty Bay.

Two other vehicles, which were not directly involved in the crash, sustained damage from the debris, confirmed Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Const. Daniel Gay.

“One vehicle was reported as catching fire which was put out. Both vehicles were SUV type,” he said, adding the driver, who was the only occupant in one of the vehicles, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Gay confirmed multiple individuals were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries but was unable to confirm exactly how many were injured or the extent of their injuries.

Highway 11 was reopened at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning after everything was cleaned up and the documentation of the collision was completed, he added.
