Driver, company charged after wheels come off transport on Hwy. 11

A Winnipeg driver and company are facing charges after the wheels came off a transport truck while driving on Highway 11 up north.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 1), Timiskaming OPP say wheels became separated from a southbound commercial motor vehicle on Highway 11 in Harley Township north of Temiskaming Shores. After receiving a call from a nearby motorist, police located the truck in question and found a set of wheels in the ditch. 

A 36-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is charged with: 

  • Wheel separation — commercial motor vehicle
  • Operate unsafe vehicle — commercial motor vehicle
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or drawn vehicle
  • Insecure load — commercial motor vehicle

A Winnipeg company is charged with: 

  • Wheel separation — commercial motor vehicle
  • Operate unsafe vehicle — commercial motor vehicle
  • Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly

Police say the driver and company officials will appear in provincial offences court in Temiskaming.
