Driver rescued from fiery wreck after Hwy 26 head-on crash

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to a serious collision Friday (Jan 28) night just before 8 p.m., which occurred on Highway 26 near Strongville Road 10 in the Township of Springwater.

Two vehicles travelling on Highway 26 were involved in a head-on collision, which resulted in a fire and one driver becoming trapped.

Emergency crews were able to free that driver and both drivers were transported to hospital. One sustained minor injuries, and the other with serious injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicles.

Highway 26 was closed for several hours for a police investigation.

As a result, Dennis Stiles, 30, of Barrie was charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol & Drugs
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers.
