A private helicopter crash-landed a short distance from a landing pad at a Collingwood home, injuring the pilot and damaging the pilot's home.
Collingwood Fire Department, along with police and ambulance, responded to a call for an aircraft crash this morning (Oct. 16) at around 10 a.m. in the Mariner's Haven subdivision. One of the waterfront homes in the area has a helicopter and landing pad on the edge of the water between the bay and the home.
The helicopter crashed onto the lawn beside the landing pad.
Collingwood Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Emo said the pilot was injured but the injuries were not life-threatening, and there was some damage to the home's windows.
A news release from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the pilot was the lone occupant of the helicopter and was attended to by paramedics and taken to hospital later as a precautionary measure.
Emergency crews have now left the scene and OPP report their investigation is complete. OPP turned the scene over to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada for further investigation.
