The snow has stopped in Orillia, but it's not safe to drive on local highways, police warn.
As of 5 p.m. this evening, Highway 11, near Washago, is closed. Because of multiple crashes and vehicles stuck on the highway, plows have not been able to clear one of the province's busiest north-south routes.
On social media, some motorists claim they have been stuck on the snow-clogged highway for up to 10 hours, unable to move and unable to leave their vehicles.
Still in Washago where they’re working hard to get Hwy 11 open again. It’s been a tough day for the plow operators. #ONStorm pic.twitter.com/Lkw7HZvHIJ

One person posted that he had been stopped going southbound since 5 a.m. "The worst is no hydro to the Tim Hortons, Esso, Circle K or Ultramar, so all doors are locked, turning people away," he posted on Facebook.
Another person posted about a helpful local neighbour.
Thanks to "the incredible family just north of On the Water Designs who have been bringing water, snacks and hot chocolate to the stranded vehicles," a grateful person posted.
Mark Robinson, known as the 'storm chaser' for The Weather Network, is on the scene just north of Orillia.
He says there are hundreds of big trucks and other vehicles stopped on the northbound lanes of the highway, lined up for kilometres, waiting and hoping to get back on the road.
Earlier today, the OPP issued an advisory, strongly urging people to keep off of Highway 11.
There has been no update from the OPP and no update as to when the highway might be reopened.
However, in the interim, officials are warning people not to head north from Orillia and to stay off the roads.
According to Environment Canada, the snow may not be finished. A snow squall warning remains in effect for the region.
The Town of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and District of Muskoka have declared a 'significant weather event' earlier today.
